At Centor, we believe in connecting people with the world outside.
It’s been part of our DNA since my Grandfather, German Engineer Frank Spork, founded the company over 60 years ago. Our family gatherings were famous for spilling out into the yard and he was passionate about inventing doors which opened the inside out.
The only problem is that traditionally doors are an inherent compromise. Big doors have great views, but little privacy. Heavy drapes keep the house warm but make rooms feel small and who wants to look outside through insect screens?
So we created a whole new category, the Centor Integrated Door.
To really connect someone to the outside, you should remove all the visual clutter. You need to design for people and make doors a delight to open or close. Screens and shades should be available when needed but vanish when not. Doors should be in harmony every season, without sticking or jamming.
The best way is to design a door system as a whole, not as isolated components like panels, shades or hardware. We designed every single element from scratch to integrate and give the very best inside-outside living.
As an Integrated Door, suddenly the compromises can be removed. We started with our experience with engineering door systems in every climate, our multi-award winning innovation and allowed our designers to dream of what might be possible. Hardware vanished, screens appeared on demand, daylight stopped in its tracks.
We put our heart into this for years. Thousands and thousands of hours (and 14 patents) later, Centor Integrated Doors are the most exciting development in the window and door industry in the last 50 years.
The world is beautiful. We believe in helping people make the most of it.
Founded by German engineer Frank Spork, Centor was first formed in Brisbane, Australia in 1951. Initially manufacturing hardware and track for sliding doors, the business evolved as Frank’s reputation grew for producing solid dependable products with silky-smooth performance. The family business grew to second generation under the guidance of Erwin Spork and today by Frank’s grandson Managing Director, Nigel Spork.
Throughout the decades, Centor forged a reputation for designing and manufacturing the industry’s leading window and door systems. In 1998, Centor designed and patented hardware for the modern folding door that enabled them to be used as exterior openings for the first time. These doors, for the first time, allowed architects to design homes which could connect people to the world outside. Centor introduced this technology initially to Australia, and then worked with architects in the UK, Europe and North America where Centor is the leading component supplier today.
Following the success of its folding door technology, Centor delivered another world-first, a retractable insect screen that could be used on large door openings with finger tip operation.
In 2010, Centor was introduced to Design Led Innovation, a method of strategically changing a business. Within six months, 181 Research & Development projects were cancelled with all company resources invested into designing and delivering the world’s first integrated doors. Three years later Centor delivered on this vision, launching the doors in the US and UK to international acclaim.
With countless international patents for innovations in window and door system design, Centor has 13 new international patents pending for Integrated Doors.
