Loving 'the contemporary look'

A fresh transformation allows this family to really enjoy their outdoor, country lifestyle.

Jane and Rob bought their rural property in East Sussex five years ago. The family lived in the small cottage, originally built in 1875, for three years while they adapted the land for their four horses. Once this project was complete, it was time to start on the house itself.

“The cottage was very bijou,” explains Jane. “We always knew we’d grow the footprint. Our dream was to be able to have more living space and to really be able to enjoy this location and the view.”

When it came to selecting the doors, there was no question about Jane’s preference for their large extension: “As soon as I saw Integrated Doors, I knew I wanted them.”

Eleven months later, the renovation is complete. The house has been transformed into a spacious four-bedroom property, perfect for the family’s outdoor, country lifestyle.

The dramatically extended kitchen diner across the back of the house overlooks the land and is Jane’s favourite part of the renovation. With two sets of Integrated Folding Doors opening the back of their home to the countryside beyond, Jane is very happy: “They’re right around our main living and kitchen area, so I can look out onto the land, our horses and the view.”

She explains: “We liked the idea of low-maintenance aluminium on the outside and the warmth of wood on the inside. We selected a lovely sage green for the outside and natural oak on the inside to match the internal doors and other fittings here.

“The way that our doors bring the outside into the house is just amazing. They have made a huge difference. The doors look great, feel really solid and are clearly very well built. But they also glide so smoothly and are so easy to open. They let in loads of light, and we’re always in this room now. It’s fantastic!”

She adds: “And I really love the clean and contemporary look to the outside. The way that the integrated screens and shades disappear right into the frame is brilliant. There’s no clutter, no mess, no dust – and nothing for the dogs to get hold of! Combined with the fact that you have a really clean, slimline look and you can’t see any of the door furniture, there’s no visible fuss. It just gives you a feeling of even more space.”

Jane has been enjoying their newly extended living space for a few months now and is using the doors on a daily basis. “I absolutely love them! They’re just brilliant. And everyone who visits says so too.”
